The European Study Group on Cardiovascular Oscillations (ESGCO) was created during an Educational Training Course
of the European Society of Cardiology in 1998 by Alberto Malliani, Tudor Griffith, Pontus Persson and Bernard Swynghedauw.
The goal of the Study Group is to promote basic research on cardiovascular oscillations, including heart rate and blood
pressure variations, contractility changes, oscillations in microcirculation, calcium waves and ion movements.
The first meeting of the Group was organized by Prof. T. Griffith, in Cardiff, Wales in 2000.
The following meetings took place in Siena, Italy (2002), Leuven, Belgium (2004) and Jena, Germany (2006).
The 5th meeting of the European Study group on Cardiovascular Oscillations will be hosted by the Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi,
in Parma, Italy from April 7 to April 9, 2008. The city of Parma is located in the region of Emilia Romagna at about 125 Km south
of Milan and 180 km north of Florence.
The meeting, jointly organized by Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi and the Dipartimento di Tecnologie per la Salute of
Universita' degli Studi di Milano aims to foster interdisciplinary discussions between scientists and professionals
from different fields including medicine, biology, neuroscience, physics, engineering and computer science.
